Jesus was, of course, the world’s best at short-term supernatural missions – constantly travelling, as Peter and Paul and their teams did later.

When I re-read Randy Clark’s chapter on Power Evangelism in Short Term Missions from his book Supernatural Missions I was inspired to produce this book – Jesus the Model for Short Term Supernatural Mission.

For over 20 years Randy Clark has led teams and equipped people of faith to minister just as Jesus told us to, and as Jesus taught his followers to do. This link takes you to a chapter from his book, edited for Renewal Journal 10: Evangelism, used with permission.

So reading that again sparked ideas for this book, resulting from one of those God-moments, I believe.

Introduction

Jesus is the best model for short-term supernatural mission.

When Jesus, aged about 30, returned to his home town of Nazareth in the hills of Galilee, he explained his mission and ministry by quoting from Isaiah.

Then Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country. ¹⁵He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone. …

¹⁶When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, ¹⁷and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:

¹⁸‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,

because he has anointed me

to bring good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives

and recovery of sight to the blind,

to let the oppressed go free,

¹⁹to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’

²⁰And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. ²¹Then he began to say to them, ‘Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.’ …

Jesus fulfilled that prophecy in his life and ministry, and taught his followers to minister that way. We can too.

The name Joshua/Jesus means God saves, or God is salvation. That is why the angel announcing his birth said, “… you are to name him Joshua/Jesus (Yeshua), for he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). It is the same name as Moses’ general, Joshua, who led the Israelites into their promised land.

The earliest English translations of the Bible used the name Jesus for Yeshua of Nazareth, and the name Joshua for others with that same name. So in English the name Jesus became unique and sacred for Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God, the Saviour of the world.

This book explores the mission and ministry of Jesus/Joshua the Christ/Messiah, the Son of God, and how he fulfilled his brief ministry (Chapter 1). Jesus took others to minister with him and sent them out to minister in the authority and power of his name (Chapter 2).

Peter and Paul travelled with teams in their mission and ministry, also anointed with the Spirit of God (Chapter 3).

I give some brief contemporary examples of short term mission and ministry (Chapter 4) and Bart Doornweed (Chapter 5) and Randy Clark (Chapter 6) describe their experience of short term supernatural mission.

The final chapter is a powerful story by Carl Lawrence about two teenage girls in China who established 30 churches in two years with congregations ranging from 200 to 5,000 (Chapter 7).

I am the Lord, your God. Jesus redeemed you from the slavery of sin through his suffering on the cross and his triumphant resurrection. You, therefore belong to Me. Confirm your salvation with a grateful life.

Worship only Me the Triune God. I am one.
Love Me openly, at all places, in the manner I ask. I am everywhere.
Worship Me with reverence. Use my Name with respectful awe in your prayers, songs, confessions and conversations. I am holy.
Love Me all the time. Retire frequently at specific times with the purpose of growing in our relationship. Every seventh day is such a time. I am eternal.
Maintain order and discipline. Keep your parents’ name high, because they will sacrifice themselves on your behalf. I establish all authority.
Treasure life. Care for health and quality of life. I am the life and I create all life.
Respect relationships. Be faithful and contribute to harmony. I join together.
Value the possessions, ability and time of others. Be fair, work for what you want and share with less privileged people. I give talents.
Count your words. Encourage your neighbours and serve the community with tactful factual statements. I am the truth.
Desire to know my will and then obey it. Grant other people happiness and prosperity. I am the way and I provide.

THE PROMISE

If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

The following prayer shines more light on God’s positive will. Found in Uniting in Worship.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

You are the Lord our God who saved us from the slavery of sin through your son Jesus Christ who paid the price on the cross and secured eternal life for us through his resurrection.

Where our devotion was not focused on you alone –

Have mercy on us, O God

Where we have not been satisfied with your own testimony of yourself, seeking to add to it a false image of our own making –

Have mercy on us, O God

God where we used your name disrespectfully or to give credibility to our own false promises or to intimidate others –

Have mercy on us, O God

Where we have worked ceaselessly without stopping to remember and to celebrate that you have delivered us from sin –

EDITORIAL

HEALING FOR WHOLENESS IN SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY

The cover photo shows Grant Shaw with Leah Waqa. Grant Shaw and I attended the Sunday service at the Upper Room church in Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu in the South Pacific. There Leah, a nurse, told how she had been dispensing medicines at the hospital that week when parents brought in their young daughter who had been badly hit in a car accident, and showed no signs of life – the monitor registered zero – no pulse. Leah felt unusual boldness, so commanded the girl to live, and prayed for her for an hour, mostly in tongues. After an hour the monitor started beeping and the girl recovered.

Grant joined me on Pentecost Island in Vanuatu. South Pentecost attracts tourists with its land diving – men jumping from high bamboo towers with vines attached to their ankles. Grant prayed for a jumper who had hurt his neck, and the neck crackled back into place. That young man and his father both gave their lives to the Lord right there in the village. Grant prayed for a son of the paramount chief of South Pentecost. He was healed from a painful leg and later he invited the team to come to his village to pray for the sick. No white people had been invited there to minister previously. More were healed there in Jesus’ name. The full account is in South Pacific Revivals by Geoff Waugh (2010).

Healing is a tough subject, especially if you or your loved ones are sick!

Attitudes to ‘the healing ministry’ and theologies about healing vary greatly. At one extreme lies the claim that everyone can and should be well, and if you have enough faith in God you will be healed; at the other extreme lies the claim that healing, if it occurs, now happens through medical science.

People at the first extreme tend to avoid medical help, trust in God alone for healing, and deny any ‘lying symptoms’. However, they usually acknowledge the importance of healthy food, exercise, rest and positive attitudes – which people at the other extreme also acknowledge.

The truth, I believe, doesn’t just stand somewhere in the middle, but in both. God heals. His healing power is always at work in us with every heartbeat, every breath. Life is his gift to us. Healthy living contributes to good health. Oranges and Vitamin C tablets promote health. So do healthy attitudes. So does prayer, and faith.

We know that being healthy is good, not bad. We go to a doctor or we take medicine because that can help overcome sickness and restore health.

Most of us pray for healing, for others and for ourselves. We usually appreciate others praying for us. We pray for others in many different ways.

It may be the general ‘God bless them’ prayer or our wish for their well being. It may be the more specific ‘Heal them, please God’ or ‘Lord lay your healing hand on them’. It may be the still more specific prayer with a person as we lay our hand on them in Jesus’ name. It may be the even more specific prayer or command, led and anointed by the Holy Spirit, through various gifts of the Spirit including healing, miracles, faith, prophecy, words of knowledge or wisdom, discernment of spirits, or tongues and maybe interpretation.

And sometimes we don’t pray for healing, but it happens anyway!

More difficult to understand is when we do pray for healing, we do have faith, we ‘trust and obey’ and yet healing does not happen, as far as we can see. We have to acknowledge that we don’t ‘see’ very far yet. There is a mystery in healing, as there is in living. We don’t understand the mystery of life, nor do we understand a lot about eternal life.

However, we know that God gives life, and sustains life. We can learn more about how to co-operate with God, including learning how to pray more effectively, believe more truly, and love more fully.

Healing is complex. Most healing takes time, but intervention through prayer or medicine can speed up the process, sometimes dramatically. Healing also involves the whole being – spirit, soul and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). These are inter-related.

We are also learning more about blockages to healing such as unforgiveness, unbelief, unhappiness, and unwillingness to yield fully to God. These can be removed in a loving, caring environment.

One major discovery in charismatic renewal, and in similar ministries, has been the reality of God’s healing grace revealing the Father’s love, such as through compassionate prayer in Jesus’ name in the power of the Holy Spirit. This ministry of love and compassion increases everywhere now.

Those who live and worship in places or among people where there is love, compassion, forgiveness, faith, courage and support for one another are especially blessed, for all these facilitate healing. As we yield to the Spirit of God among us, these abound, and so does healing. This is part of the Lord’s purpose and commission for his church – to be a loving and healing community.

We believe that Jesus healed, especially in compassion for people. He commanded and taught his disciples to preach the good news about the reign of God, heal the sick and cast out evil spirits. Jesus is the same – yesterday, today and forever. His commission is the same still. We are learning again to humbly and courageously obey him in the power of his Spirit. There is more to learn and do yet.

This issue of the Renewal Journal aims to help you do that. David Lithgow, Jim Holbeck, John Blacker, Colin Warren, John Warlow and Spencer Colliver tell of their discoveries and understanding of healing. Sue Armstrong and Trevor Faggotter describe revival movements which also include healing through prayer.

The next issue of the Renewal Journal, Number 5 (95:1), looks at Signs and Wonders including an overview of their place in the church throughout history and their explosion in revival movements today. Subsequent issues are planned for topics such as worship, prayer and compassion. These take on new meaning and expression in renewal ministry.

The Renewal Journal will continue to carry articles on renewal and revival across all churches and in the community. Please pray as you read! May God bring healing to the land as we repent and believe the good news of God’s great grace.

The Lion of Judah in Scripture

The Lion of Judah, a title adapted from Revelation 5:5, is one of the titles for Jesus. The verses in this book cover his many titles. The name Jesus is from the Greek translation of the Hebrew name Joshua (Yeshua). See www.biblegateway.com for more references using these titles.

Lion of Judah

Judah’s father Jacob called him a young lion and prophesied that ‘the sceptre shall not depart from Judah until Shiloh comes’ (Genesis 49:9-10 NKJV), or ‘until he comes to whom it belongs’ (RSV), or ‘until tribute comes to him’ (NRSV, ESV). Revelation 5:5 declares that the Lion of the tribe of Judah has triumphed, announcing that Jesus, the sacrificial Lamb was also the conquering Lion.

Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.’ (Revelation 5:5)

Jesus/Joshua (the Lord saves)

The word Joshua/Jesus means the Lord saves, or the Lord is salvation. That is why the angel announcing his birth said, ‘… you are to name him Joshua/Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins’ (Matthew 1:21). It is the same name as Moses’ general, Joshua, who led the Israelites into their promised land.

The earliest English translations of the Bible used the name Jesus for Joshua/Jesus of Nazareth, and the name Joshua for others with that same name. It is translated as Joshua in Luke 3:29 (Jose in KJV), Acts 7:45 and Hebrews 4:8. So in English the name Jesus became unique and sacred for Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God, the Saviour of the world.

Joshua (originally ‘Yehoshua’ in Hebrew) had been shortened to Yeshua in Jesus’ time, so Jesus was known as Yeshua/Joshua. That name became Iesous in Greek, Yesu in Africa and Asia, Isa in Arabic, and both Joshua and Jesus in English. The Hebrew word was translated as Joshua in English and the Greek translation of that name became both Joshua and Jesus in English.

Here are sample passages about Joshua/Jesus of Nazareth. You can respond to him as you read about him. He said, “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20).

She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21)

I am

Jesus, one with God, uses God’s name given to Moses at the burning bush – ‘I am’ (Exodus 3:14). The verses here expound many facets of who Jesus is in himself.

Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly, I tell you, before Abraham was, I am.’ (John 8:58)

The Bread of life, the living bread

I am the bread of life (John 6:35, 48)

I am the living bread (John 6:51)

The Light of the world

I am the light of the world (John 8:12; 9:5)

The Door/Gate

I am the door/I am the gate (John 10:7, 9; door NKJV; gate NRSV)

The Good Shepherd

I am the good shepherd (John 10:11, 14)

… a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel (Matthew 2:6; see Ezekiel 34)

The Resurrection, the Life

I am the resurrection and the life (John 11:25)

The way, the truth, the life

I am the way, and the truth, and the life (John 14:6)

The True Vine

I am the true vine (John 15:1)

I am the vine, you are the branches (John 15:5)

The Alpha and the Omega,

The first and the last,

The beginning and the end

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. (Revelation 22:13; see Revelation 1:8, 11; 22:13).

I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

The Hebrew word is Jerusalem

This book examines how Jesus, the Lion of Judah, fulfilled prophecies about him in the Scriptures.

Jesus Declared that he fulfilled Scripture

But all this has taken place, so that the scriptures of the prophets may be fulfilled. (Matthew 26:56)

Open yourself to the wonder of Jesus Christ – 5 stars

Looking for a great book to help you meditate on the wonder of Jesus in all his richness and grandeur and love? Geoff Waugh has helpfully and thoughtfully brought together wide-ranging biblical passages (not just a string of references for you to look up!), arranged in clearly titled sections (this book is a combination of his smaller books, The Lion of Judah nos. 1-6). Read this book prayerfully and you will not be the same! Then share it with others. Dr John Olley.

This book is full of information, biblical information. I have learned so much from it and what I wasn’t able to keep in my head, I had my handy highlighter, so I could go back to it and find it. It is a book of multiple books and it’s not that big, but it’s filled with so many facts and details. If you want to learn more from the Bible, this is the book to read. A. Aldridge. (5 stars)

Arabian Peninsula: Sheiks legally import Bibles

A Christian worker in an Islamic country in the Arabian Peninsula told this story to Greg Kernaghan, a writer for OM International (Operation Mobilization International):

For the last 30 years, people have smuggled Bibles into this country in suitcases, been increasingly caught and deported and the Bibles destroyed. Six years ago, I decided that if I could make one contribution to the Gospel, I would import them legally.

I was a neighbour to some very powerful sheiks. As my Arabic steadily improved, I became more interesting to them. I would meet them regularly for conversation over tea. One of the sheiks, older than I am, invited me weekly to his house, as I was friends with his son and a cousin. They often asked my reason in living in the Arabian Peninsula. I operate a bona fide business providing services the locals cannot.

Love is patient

In conversation, as we talked about the Qur’an, I would mention the Injil (Gospel) and the position of the Bible in the Qur’an. It says that we should read the Torah, the Zabur (Psalms), the Injil – all of God’s books. So I challenged them to read the Injil, saying that we in fairness could not dialogue about them unless all of us have read them, as I would have an unfair advantage as the only one in our group to have done so. The Qur’an does not speak of only one volume; it is a multi-volume work. In my view, many Muslims have been disobedient to the Qur’an by not reading all of the volumes God has given us. In humility, as an outsider who has read all the books, I don’t want to enter into discussions until they also have read them.

All of a sudden they thought, He’s right – but he’s not right. And so they debated this amongst themselves. This process lasted, not one or two hours, but a year. Inevitably it comes back to tahreef – belief that the Christian Scriptures are corrupted. I did my research on this claim; I was in no rush but was patient for truth’s sake.

Over some months, I presented my study of the issue. This teaching, in fact, goes against the Qur’an; they can’t say that something is possible (corruption) when God says it is impossible. The Qur’an says that the Word of God cannot be changed. Who has the power over God to corrupt His Word? Eventually they admitted that, in order to be good Muslims, they not only had to read all the books but also had to remove this idea of tahreef from the discussion.

Challenging honour

Then it became an open discussion: Where can we get the Injil? I suggested they should just go the market and buy it. They were sceptical; maybe it was illegal. Why would the word of God be illegal? Nevertheless, I told them to go and find it.

Two weeks later they returned and said it wasn’t possible. Maybe no one wants to read it? This is haram, I said; it’s shameful that a country of Muslims doesn’t want to obey the Qur’an and read all the books. What kind of Islam are you practicing? They conceded that I was right, because I had already gone through a study of the Qur’an with them to lay the foundations for the Gospel. OK, they said, we have to read it and, since it’s not available, we need to find a way to make it available. I said that I had copies at home, which they could read; if they liked the translation, we could explore ways to get more. I gave a copy to the sheiks and his male relatives.

Over the next six months, they all read it cover to cover. Amazing conversations followed. We talked about Jesus, miracles, their misconceptions of Christians and how sometimes the behaviour of Christians didn’t align with the teachings of Jesus – not unlike how the behaviour of Muslims may not align with the teaching of the Qur’an.

One of my friends in the group read through the Injil, and Jesus appeared to him in a dream. He asked me many questions in private and then recounted his understanding of Jesus as Messiah. He became a follower of Jesus.

It took two years for these sheiks to realise that there were no Injils in the rest of the country, and that they had the moral and religious duty to make it available for all Muslims to read. There we were again, sitting around drinking tea while the sheiks argued amongst themselves as to whether it would be more profitable to print them in the country or import them.

I said, “Brothers, let me help you.” They responded, “No, you can’t get involved; you’re a white foreigner and if people see you involved they’ll think it’s a missionary effort and have nothing to do with it, and you and we will get into trouble. This has to come 100 percent from us.” I said, “I understand. I won’t be actively involved in what is your religious duty. What I can do is talk to the publisher and get you the materials to print locally or, if you choose to import it, I will pay for the first container load. It will belong to you the moment it is loaded onto the ship.” They agreed to try one shipment; if it sold well, they would consider printing it on demand inside the country.

So I arranged for 25,000 copies of the Gospels and the Book of Acts, a beautiful, high-quality version that would display beautifully and be respected. Using a cheap-looking version would cause deep offense. In this conservative country, the physical form of a holy book matters. It is unthinkable for a holy book to be a paperback!

God’s ways are not ours

So we sent the container on its way to the Arabian Peninsula. Meanwhile, there were attacks on foreigners inside the country and the man involved in importing the container wanted to back away from the deal. With no one claiming the container, it was locked up in storage. Two weeks of careful negotiations with various departments began to crack the bureaucratic wall. An understanding official agreed that technically it was legal but he wanted to avoid potential backlash if the info fell into the wrong hands. He too insisted that, as a white foreigner, I should be nowhere near the situation. We offered to regulate the rate of distribution, which was an acceptable compromise – we would very slowly trickle the Injils into the market.

Jesus is capable of speaking to people through various means, but the dominant manner in this culture is through Scripture. In spite of the negotiations to regulate distribution, the shipment was distributed within a week! Because the sheiks forbade me to get involved, they oversaw the distribution. Our group paid for the Injils and I brokered the deal, but the local sheiks imported them into their country, legally. We have received reports of them being sold in markets and bookstores throughout the country.

Our hope is that, in the future, there will be many thousands more printed inside this country. I’d like to think that I helped make it happen, but this was the work of local Muslim sheiks, partly motivated by financial gain, but also by a renewed sense of duty as Muslims to make the Injil available to people. It took a three-and-a-half year conversation, a thousand cups of tea and the building of trust. God is able.

In Philippians 3:10 Paul is saying what the focus of his life is…..

¹⁰that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,

The Resurrection of Christ changes everything. The death of Jesus is one thing but the fact that Christ was raised from the dead is the game changer and is the key to the power of Christianity. In fact the resurrection of Christ achieved 14 powerful things:

1) Affirms all that Jesus said.

The truth about everything Jesus taught depends upon and is proved by His resurrection. It gives authority to His words, especially His own prediction that He would conquer the grave

Mark 8:31

31And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

The resurrection of Christ validates His Message and Mission. More than that, the Resurrection…

2) Confirms Who Jesus is.

He was not merely a martyred teacher. The fact that He conquered death confirms us that He is our promised Messiah. The Resurrection shows that His sacrifice was acceptable to the Father. It clarifies His Lordship and provides proof of His deity. The Person and work of Christ are ratified and confirmed by His rising from the tomb.

3) Vindicates Christ’s suffering and death.

Jesus died intentionally, to purchase our salvation – and He did not die in vain.

How can we know if His death has saving power for our behalf? The Resurrection proves that His mission was fully accomplished.

4) Conquers death for us.

John 11:25.

“I am the resurrection and the life…Because I live, you shall live also” Jesus assures us

Because Jesus rose from the grave, death is no longer an issue for us. We replace fear with confidence and security.

5) Manifests the justice of God.

Hebrews 9:11-14

¹¹But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. ¹²Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. ¹³For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, ¹⁴how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

He took our punishment which the justice of God demanded.

6) Frees us from our sins.

Romans 6:5-7

⁵For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, ⁶knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. ⁷For he who has died has been freed from sin.

We died with Christ. We were raised with Christ. Sin has no power over a dead person. And now we walk in freedom from sin.

7) Defeats Satan.

Col 2:14-15

¹⁴Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. ¹⁵For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

The armies of hell thought they’d won on Good Friday, but Hell’s party was cancelled after only three days! The devil is no longer our Master – we serve a risen Lord, whose victory over evil is assured.

8) Honours humankind in an unparalleled way.

John 3:16

For God so loved humans…..

The King of the Universe reaches down to us, and in so doing, He raises our value and worth.

The resurrection obtains righteousness for us

2 Corinthians 4:22

²¹For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

9) Displays the power of God.

We are living in a world in which God has the last word. Skeptics deny that God could or would act in the world. Easter declares that God is involved in His creation.

He is not remote or detached– He chooses to come in the Person of Christ to offer Himself as a ransom for many. And Jesus rightly asserted that after laying down His life He had “authority to take it up again”

John 10:18

¹⁸No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”

10) Provides the basis for Kingdom-building.

Because He lives, we have work to do.

We have a task at hand to live and communicate our faith. What we do for Jesus will last, will be effective; our efforts will not be in vain. The Resurrection is our foundation upon which we build.

The risen Christ authorizes us in the Great Commission to “go and make disciples.”

Mt 28:18-20

¹⁸And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations … And behold, I am with you always even to the end of the age.

11) Demonstrates the uniqueness of Christianity.

All other religious founders are dead.

We serve as living Saviour. The Resurrection sets our faith apart.

12) Sustains our hope.

Because Jesus rose, we are established in the certain hope that we too shall rise again. Peter writes, “By God’s great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

I Pet 1:3

³Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

13) Reveals a new way of being human.

We now live in the power of the Resurrection, which permeates all we do

Phil 3:10

¹⁰that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death

Galations 2:20

²⁰I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

2 Corinthians 5:17

¹⁷Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Every endeavor of ours is affected by the risen Christ.

It frees us to be ourselves and removes the slavery of sin.

14) Christ’s resurrection is essential.

Should we remove the Resurrection, the Christian message would completely unravel. Christianity is a “resurrection movement” (N.T. Wright).

This doctrine is a crucial, fundamental, non-negotiable truth of our faith. We exist because of Jesus’ resurrection.
